Right Ala Valley
Rocca Affinau-Balme (TO)

The Castle Affinau is located in the municipality of Balme (TO).

Nestled between the Bessanese and Punta "Crot" is the antechamber of the channel of Arnas.

At Pian della Mussa, a footpath at the foot of the Alpe Venoni leads us next to the Channel of goats and later on the ground floor of the dead.

The trail is well marked and reporting comes to a cliff at the base here there are large rock terraces on top of which were places of handrails, overcome this little fix can be reached in a short time to the famous "Crot" of Ciaussinè which hosts the Gastaldi.

In front of us and the majestic Bessanese, to our left in about 30 minutes you reach the fortress Affinau.

In rodingiti present in situ we noticed the presence of calcite, diopside, Garnet and epidote.

Of considerable interest is the large area of ruins that surround the rock Affinau in the direction of Collerin Of Arnas where rare crystals of anatase accompany quartz crystals and albite, the boulders come with great probability from the channel of Arnas and hardly attributable to Affinau Fortress.

Albite, anatase, calcite, chlorite, epidote, diopside, Garnet, quartz, sulfides.

My heartfelt thanks to Istituto Geografico Militare in Florence that has made available the cartography of the area treated.
