Left Ala Valley
Fontana del Prete-Rio Chianale-Ala di Stura (TO)

We are in the valli di Lanzo, Ala Valley (Turin) near Ala di Stura.

Just above the hamlet of Villar at the left bank of the Rio Chianale, just a few metres from the third embankment dam of rio, are located the famous fountain of the priest's fields, a mining concession in the past.

Currently a sign indicates the prohibition of research and collection of minerals.

One minute trail, branches off from the river embankment at the sign indicating the ban on research and collection of minerals, motivated above all by the dangerousness of the conformation of the rocks very unstable.

In the first part of the trail is a small moraine near the area where you can see a large boulder that villagers called (PREIVE).

In minute small valley, on the right side of the rock, in the thick of the pines, in the past there was a fountain that has given its name to this site (Preive's fountain).

Details, especially in the A and B rodingite lenses that overlap interspersed by coils up to form plywood.

The minerals.

Apatite crystals, chlorite, diopside crystals, epidote crystals, green Garnet crystals, centimetric predominantly dark red color but represented by more shade, vesuvianite a beautiful pale green.

Thanks

My heartfelt thanks to Istituto Geografico Militare in Florence that has made available the cartography of the area treated.

We thank the geologist Dr. Alfio Nicotra and Franco Chianale.
