Left Ala Valley
Alpe Rossa-Balme (TO)

The alpe is located in the municipality of Balme (TO), just above the Pian Della Mussa on the left bank of the Val d'ala.

When you reach the famous Pian della Mussa at the Grange of Mussa, in about 15 minutes we reach the Gias of Rulè along a path.

Will not be at all unusual to observe in this ample marmots in typical attitudes of territorial defence: chase each other, sometimes malmenandosi and in case of danger, people approached, the Marmot Sentinel, stands up on hind legs, emits a sound similar to a whistle, and warn his comrades of a possible danger.

Leaving the Gias of Rulè behind us, without traversing it, going up to a series of hairpin curves until you reach the mountain huts of the Alpe Rulè, behind the mountain, the trail continues to climb for a series of flaps then definitely our right bend towards the Alpe della Rossa 2229 m.

Currently the mountain pasture of Alpe della Rossa is a courageous pastors that amost summer up here with the cattle.

Come to the cabins of Alpe della Rossa we will continue our journey in the path to our right to the East (to the left goes towards pian Ciamarella), trace the path always to our right we can notice the Mineralogical deposits of red.

Just above the deposits of Red Classics a huge wall rests on a plateau where other veins appear very rodingite altered where you can see Garnet crystals not well crystallized.

Albite-chlorite-calcite, diopside, Garnet-ilmenite-magnetite-idrossiclinohummite – olivine – titanite.

My heartfelt thanks to Istituto Geografico Militare in Florence that has made available the cartography of the area treated.
