Lanzo Valley
Alpe Laiet-Sumiana-Lakes Mezzenile (TO)

Pleasant outing that Sumiana Lakes.

Recommended period from late spring to late October.

Striking the surrounding landscape, primarily the Uia by Calchas with Lunelle and Rocca Moross.

From the small hamlet of Monti, Mezzenile (TO), a marked trail runs alongside the Church of the village towards the alpe Begone.

In about 15 – 20 minutes, between Birch and raspberries you reach the fountain of Saccona according to the villagers that has therapeutic properties!

Shortly thereafter there walks towards the alpe Begone in a marked trail that crosses a dark beech furrowed ravines from three three canals that form the rio Begone.

Are clear of the old plots used by charcoal burners to get coal.

Passed the latter rio and the last small valley is in front of us the alpe Laiet with its pasture now abandoned for several years and its ruins of landscapes of other times, we ... mineralogical stage.

At one point the area's steep below, in 2001 I discovered a large geode in prasinite stone, large, positioned horizontally on the wall, measuring about 2 feet wide by 1 metre and 20 cm. tall.

For the probable effectiveness of earthquakes the druse are precipitated Vault based on the geode and in the course of geological ERAs were covered with calcium carbonates hiding even the base of the geode.

The druse, treated with a mild solution of hcl were completely covered with crystals of albite and sulfides, sulfides were never analyzed.

From the ruins of his hut, continuing to the Northwest, in a less obvious way, in about 20 minutes, we will reach the Lakes of Sumiana, pay close attention to the vipers that it's easy to see especially in the upper part of the Lait before descending towards Sumiana Lakes.

The waters of the lakes contain trout and char, there are several colonies of frogs.

Beech and birch are interspersed near the Lakes giving space to small clearings.

The minerals.

Albite , centimetric crystals white opaque until transparent, sulphides in dress to the nearest millimetre cubic crystals.

Thanks

My heartfelt thanks to Istituto Geografico Militare in Florence that has made available the cartography of the area treated.
